Electric Food Smokers
An Electric Food Smoker is a Meat Smoker that uses and electric heating element for producing the heat necessary for smoking the food inside. Typically it is a large container where food is placed inside on racks or hooks and there is an electric heating element at the bottom to provide heat. Woods chips are placed on this heating element and when the element heats up the Wood Chips begin to smolder and give off wood smoke inside the electric smoker where the food is being smoked.
The better electric food smokers have a thermostat to control the heating element and thus keeping the heat inside the electric food smoker consistent at a preset temperature. Of all the BBQ smokers the electric smoker is the most controllable in regards to the cooking temperature. The problem with the electric food smoker is the smoke output. Because it requires the addition of Wood Chips near the electric heating element it usually requires the opening of the smoker to add the wood and this causes the loss of heat inside the electric smoker. Also the wood chips burn up quite quickly so the person using the electric smoker must stay vigilant to add wood chips every ½ or less so that there is constant smoker inside this type of BBQ smoker.
Another problem with the electric food smoker is that it cannot be used for cold smoking. The heating element that is used for producing the smoke from the wood chips causes too much heat inside the electric smoker to permit cold smoking.
Since the only problems with the electric smoker are related to smoke production these can be remedied quite quickly with the addition of the SmokePistol®. The SmokePistol® is a self contained smoke generating unit which can be quickly added to the electric food smoker. Because the SmokePistol® provides a constant, consistent and controllable source of smoke, the eclectic smoker now becomes an outstanding type of BBQ smoker especially if it has a thermostat. Now both the heat and the smoke are consistent and controllable and that combination is what is necessary for a great food smoker. Further, because the SmokePistol® provides a source of real Bbq Wood smoke which does not require the use of the electric heating element, this smoker can now be used for cold smoking applications like smoking cheese or better yet it can be used for meat smoking that starts out with cold smoking and then move into hot smoking as for fish and other quickly cooking foods.
