Three Ways to Find the Weber 731001 Smokey Mountain Cooker on Sale: What Worked for Me and What Didn't
I was interested in getting the Weber 731001 Smokey Mountain Cooker 22.5-Inch Smoker. Because I had researched different products, I knew exactly what I wanted in a barbeque smoker and what I thought was the best one for my needs. Weber smokers are top of the line; and so I set off to find the best way to get it on sale. I was hot on the trail of a Weber smoker grills sale, and I will tell you about the three options I found and the pros and cons of each method.
Way Number One: Driving around town. I drove to the big box home improvement stores. You know the ones I am referring to, I am sure. They had lots of outdoor cookers and some smokers, but not the Weber 731001. The advantages of finding a smoker at a big box store is that if you have a car with a decent sized back seat or a truck, you can purchase the smoker right then and there and take it home and cook on it that night. Also, you can see the actual product. Great convenience, but there are some downsides to that, as well. Driving around town from one store to another can be time-consuming and can use up a lot of gas in your car. If you want your smoker on sale, you have to wait until the corporate chain decides to run a discount, so just because it is convenient to buy one at a local store, you may have to wait awhile for a really good sale. Rest assured, there will be one eventually if you have the time to wait for it. You can ask the store personnel if it will be on sale soon, or you could watch for ads in the paper. And then, there is the issue with the product you want not being in stock or not carried at all. That's a downer. This method did not work very well for me.
Way Number Two: Letting my fingers do the walking, or calling around town. I called some stores around town and found that being put on hold wasted quite a lot of time. The first store I called is a major national store with a good reputation that carries a wide variety of products for almost every need you could ever think of having. They may have had several customers to take care of in the home and garden department at the time I called, so after waiting for 5-10 minutes on the phone I did get a very nice man who said they did not carry what I wanted. The next store I called was a giant nation-wide discount chain known for selling everything at discount prices. I was on hold for a while waiting for a nice sales lady to check on the availability of the Weber smoker I want. Time passed. It seems that calling stores for product price and availability may not be the most efficient use of time. She did tell me in the beginning that the smokers were not on sale, but I thought since it was a discount store that there might be a good regular price. I found out it is not sold in their stores, but I can get it at their online store. If these stores had said they had what I wanted and it was on sale, I could have compared prices and gotten the best deal. However, it is very time-consuming to call for product price and availability information. This second method was not productive for me, either.
Way Number Three: Finding the product online and comparing prices. This worked the best for me. Online stores seemed to give me the easiest way to compare prices and have the confidence that I was dealing with a reputable company. I typed the product name and model number into my browser and was given lots of choices for price comparison. I found great prices on online stores, but had to keep in mind that I must consider shipping charges, which could eat away at my discount. The only disadvantage to this could be that shipping time could take from three days to two weeks or more, depending on the shipper. But if you want to save money, this Is a reasonable tradeoff for the money saved.
