Upper range limit on a rifle with a "Scout Scope"?
An acquaintance of mine at my Sportsman's Club is putting together a deer hunt for us in Mexico. The dollar still goes a long way in Mexico. He has more money than hunting buddies (his father owns a trucking company in Mexico) and we are thinking about going to a hunting lodge near his home town.
He has a BLR (Browing Lever Action) Rifle in 7mm/08, with a twenty inch barrel, and it is a take down model. Because it is a take down, the scope is mounted on the barrel, and not the Receiver. It has a 2.75 Magnification Burris Scope scope mounted where the rear sight should be.
He thinks his gun is good to 400 yards. I am telling him that something LESS than a 3x scope, with a short barrel, and with a non rigid frame that comes apart will be lucky to hit a deer at 200 yards. We are going this weekend to the rifle range. I think if he can keep them all on a dinner plate at 200 it will be a miracle.
Who is right here?
A 7mm/08 is an accurate round.
Browning makes very good quality rifles.
Burris makes some excellent scout scopes.
I think with the brand deer hunting ammo his rifle shoots best with he will place his bullets well within a dinner plate at 200 yards.
If he can't, I will.
